Abraham Arcavi
Abraham Arcavi, Argentinian by birth, has a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from the Weizmann Institute of Science where he is professor.
He started teaching at 19 years old and continued for many years. He worked on curriculum development, in-service teacher education and research. He has worked on using history of mathematics in teacher courses, on non-mathematically oriented student learning, on symbol sense and visualization. Nowadays he leads a project using videotaped lessons in teacher professional development. He published more than 80 articles/chapters and was Visiting Professor at Tsukuba, Berkeley, Barcelona, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro. He led committees for the Israeli Ministry of Education, the Israeli Academy of Sciences and the Israeli Science Foundation, and is the Secretary General of ICMI.
He is interested in how theories, research and practice interact for the benefit of teachers and students.
